How to Kill Termites
Learning how to kill termites is very important because using insecticides won’t just work; you have to understand what termites are and their weaknesses in order to extinguish them. Also, learning how to kill termites won’t be enough; you also have to learn how to keep them from coming back.

So what are the ways how to kill termites?

Using chemicals is the most common in the how to kill termites list.  This is what exterminators use.  Nowadays, exterminator companies offer what’s called chemical barriers, which not only kill termites in your house but also keep termites from entering the barrier into your house.

But how to kill termites starts by identifying the type of termites terrorizing your home, since the type of termites determines the chemical and method that you should use.

Subterranean termites live in soil colonies and need moisture in order to survive. This type travels from their nest to find food and then go back to their nest to feed the colony.  So how to kill termites of this type?  There are two ways. First is to use a chemical leaves them alive for at least 90 days so that they can transfer the chemical to their colony.  That way, not only were those directly treated will be killed, but also those in the colonies not treated.  The second way how to kill termites is to use the bait system.  Similar to the first method, the bait also allows the termites to bring the poison back and spread it to their colony.  At the same time, it prevents them from proliferating, which eventually will lead to the eradication of the whole colony.

Now let’s move on to how to kill termites of the dry wood variety, the ones who live in excavated nests inside the wood.  It’s either through fumigation or spot treatment.  Fumigation is very lethal, resulting in instantaneous death by replacing the oxygen in the building or house with the poisonous gas.  But because it’s very lethal, it should only be performed by a professional and the whole structure be covered and be restricted from anyone entering. The 2nd way of how to kill termites of the dry wood kind is by spot treatment.  This is recommended for isolated and localized areas by directly introducing either foam or dust termiticides through holes in the wood.

Next, how to kill termites of the damp wood or rotten wood kind.  This type thrives on wet, moist wood, are the largest and can do damage in homes in a bigger and faster manner.  Because these termites also live in wood like the drywood kind, whatever method is effective in eradicating the dry wood termites will also be effective for the damp wood termites.  Additionally, because they do thrive in the wetness and dampness of the wood, sometimes its best to just replace the wood, or at least getting rid of the source of moisture.

Yet another way of how to kill termites is what is commonly known as tenting.  In this method, the temperature in the house is raised, which will kill termites because they cannot survive in high temperatures.

But prevention is better than killing termites. In order for your house to stay termite-free, make sure that there are no leaking faucets or pipes. Moist areas attract colonies of termites which may cause years of problems. Also, reduce if not avoid using wood materials containing cellulose as they make good food for termites, especially the drywood kind.
