Speculation says that termites originated in China and Japan and found their way to the United States sometime after the WWII. Scientists believe they traveled in crates that brought military equipment back from the overseas area. The termite seems to devastate areas like New Orleans, Texas, Florida and Mexico, however all areas are affected by termites. Some areas have different groups and species of termites while others have less activity. 


In one year, termites will cost the American population billions of dollars to fix the damage done by the destructive termites. As we find more aggressive measures towards the termites evolve, they turn more resilient to pesticides and cost the country more money in trying to formulate stronger pesticides to kill infestations. The termite population beats us by ten to one. This means that termites are the largest population, not us, as we would like to think. 

The advantage that termites have is most homeowners do not recognize the signs of termites. Termites have the ability to hide and feed on wood anywhere in your home. This goes unnoticed for years and by the time you find sign of termites, your structure has received a substantial amount of damage. We are more or less ignorant when it comes to termites and their infestations. One of the signs of termites to look for is the swarms of flying termites in the springtime. This usually means they are looking for a mate and will nest close by your location. If you see the flying termites, these are the reproductive and they produce the eggs. The common signs of termites are the mud tunnels they leave around the area of your foundation and walls. Check you walls, attic and basement, and your furniture. 

In the basement, you may see signs of termites in the form of dried feces piles. This is usually a white powder looking substance. On your walls sign of termites show up with moist spots on the wall, sandy power that falls from the wall if you knot on it and the most important one, a hollow sound coming from your walls upon knotting on them. 

Early detection will save your home and your hard-earned money. Signs of termites need your immediate attention and whether you use a professional or you do it yourself, this is something that needs your attention now. Never underestimate the termite, they appear smarter than we seem. An inside and outside treatment is required when dealing with termites.
